Your Pulse Monitor – Update #3
There is nothing like the feeling of actually doing the work and having success. That being said, I’m happy to report that last week I accomplished 50% of that statement! After having an impromptu Zoom call with my friend Marcus, I spent about 4 hrs each day as I was focused on the project.
For some background, my MVP build will be using an email service provider (ESP) to send out the emails vs relying upon cron jobs within a web server. The thoughts of course are “Will this work?” as it’s a bit of a hack. Then again,. That is what MVPs often are!
Here is a recap of last week's activities:
Monday:
Started with Mailerlite (ML), creating a group and sending out an email, but forgot to include the necessary link.
Tuesday:
Made adjustments in ML, updating automation settings to track email opens and URL clicks. Despite successful testing, encountered issues with subscriber movement in the workflow due to Mailerlite glitches.
Wednesday Morning:
Continued troubleshooting with Mailerlite without success.
Wednesday Afternoon:
Switched gears to Omnisend (OS), integrating it with the YPM website via a plugin. Transitioned the workflow from ML to OS, successfully triggering email sequences. However, I encountered issues with tagging subscribers.
Thursday Morning:
Reached out to tech support and implemented suggested changes, including adding delays for better testing. Still faced challenges with tagging subscribers correctly.
Thursday Afternoon:
Took a step back to reassess the workflow and discovered a misconfiguration in OS’s trigger settings (which was my mistake) but I fixed that issue with the help of my friend Sally and her keen eye site and brain! After reviewing some additional documentation, I realized that OS wasn’t going to work for my use case.
Friday:
While out on my morning run, I thought to myself, “What if I kept the ESP internal to WordPress itself?” That sparked the memory that the service MailPoet (MP) is a potential solution as it is 100% inside of the WordPress dashboard.
I created an account and am working on trying that service this week, once my taxes are done! I’m also looking to see if MP might need either WP Hooks and/or Uncanny Automator to work. We’ll see!
Throughout this process, the analogy of Thomas Edison's approach to invention resonates – not as 99 failures, but as 99 ways that didn't work. Despite encountering setbacks with two different tools, each attempt has been a learning experience, bringing me closer to finding the right solution for YPM. As I move forward, the journey continues with optimism and perseverance.
